The Times Leader highlighted the health journey of Lauren Chapple, a collegiate soccer player from the Wilkes Barre-Scranton area who threw out the first pitch at the I Heart Phillies game on July 21. At Temple Health, Lauren received a life-changing diagnosis of Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) and met with Anjali Vaidya, MD, FACC, FASE, FACP, Director of the Advanced Pulmonary Hypertension, Right Heart Failure & CTEPH Program at Temple University Hospital. Pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) surgery was recommended, and Lauren’s surgery was performed by Yoshiya Toyoda, MD, PhD, Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at TUH, in August 2024. Lauren was Temple’s 453rd PTE surgery – Temple is now approaching its 500th PTE surgery. The Times Leader interviewed Lauren, Dr. Vaidya and Dr. Toyoda for the article.
