Temple patient Jesus Lopez of North Jersey was diagnosed with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), a rare condition caused by persistent blood clots in the lung arteries. That diagnosis led him Temple Health, which has the largest CTEPH center in the Eastern U.S., and Anjali Vaidya, MD, FACC, FASE, FACP, Co-Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension, Right Heart Failure & CTEPH Program at Temple University Hospital. In 2019, he underwent a surgery called pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) to remove his clots. Mr. Lopez told abc7 that before undergoing PTE surgery, he was scared to start a family. Once his health improved after the surgery, he started to believe a child was a real possibility. His son was born in August and he will celebrate his first Father’s Day this June.
