Anjali Vaidya, MD, FACC, FASE, FACP, Co-Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension, Right Heart Failure & CTEPH Program and Associate Program Director of the Cardiology Fellowship at Temple University Hospital (TUH) and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM); Paul Forfia, MD, Co-Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension, Right Heart Failure & CTEPH Program at TUH and Professor of Medicine at LKSOM; Tony S. Reed, MD, MBA, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Temple University Health System; and David Fleece, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer at TUH and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at LKSOM, spoke with the Temple News about a virtual screening tool for pulmonary hypertension as well as telemedicine. The new virtual screening tool, known as the Virtual Echocardiography Screening Tool (VEST), makes use of initial data from echocardiography, which captures images of the heart, and accurately and remotely diagnoses pulmonary hypertension based on a simple analysis of multiple echocardiogram features – a major advance in virtual patient care, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Vaidya is the lead author on the study about VEST published online in the journal Pulmonary Circulation.
