Temple University Health System’s preparations for and treatment of patients amidst the coronavirus pandemic continue to be part of the media’s COVID-19 coverage.

  • A Philadelphia Inquirer article described how area health systems are preparing for a possible surge in patients due to the coronavirus. The publication interviewed Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE, President and CEO of TUHS and President and CEO of Temple University Hospital (TUH); Tony S. Reed, MD, MBA, Chief Medical Officer of TUH; and Claire Raab, MD, Associate Chief Medical Officer of TUH.
  • Dr. Reed also spoke with the Philadelphia Business Journal about measures underway to increase system capacity should there be a surge in patients related to the pandemic.
  • Dr. Reed also joined 6ABC to explain why staying at home right now is so critically important.
  • Margot Savoy, MD, MPH, Chair and Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, was interviewed by Philadelphia magazine for two articles – one about which health care appointments patients should keep right now and one about telemedicine.
  • Jamie Garfield, MD, Associate Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Assistant Chief Quality Officer for Temple Faculty Physicians, and Director of Quality and Improvement and Patient Safety for the Internal Medicine Residency at Temple University Hospital, was featured on the KYW Newsradio “In Depth” podcast. Dr. Garfield provided an update on the coronavirus, how vaping and smoking affect the lungs in general, and how that could impact one’s risk for COVID-19. She also shared information on how someone who is vaping or smoking can take steps to quit.
  • Jason Gallagher, PharmD, FCCP, FIDP, FIDSA, BCPS, Clinical Professor at the Temple University School of Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases at Temple University Hospital and Director of the Postgraduate Year Two Infectious Diseases Residency at the Temple University School of Pharmacy, will be a guest on a live webcast with the Pharmacy Times on Sunday, April 5. The webcast is titled “COVID-19 Essentials for Pharmacists and What You Need to Know Right Now.”
  • Erin R. Narewski, DO, FCCP, Assistant Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Temple University Hospital (TUH) and Unit Based Medical Director of 6 East at TUH, shared her insight about what it’s like working on the front lines during the pandemic with the Philadelphia Inquirer.
  • Angie Cleghorn, a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Temple University Hospital-Jeanes Campus, offered her perspective to the Philadelphia Inquirer as well.
  • The Philadelphia Chinese-American community donated personal protective equipment (PPE), including items such as masks, gloves, coveralls and hand sanitizer, to local medical centers, including Temple University Hospital (TUH). 6ABC, CBS3 and the Northeast Times covered the news. The Temple University Chinese Community and the Temple University Center for Asian Health contributed to the donations to TUH.
  • The Philadelphia Inquirer and Mainline Suburban Life detailed how individuals can contact TUHS about donations.
