PBS39 shared the story of Temple lung transplant patient Thomas Hyclak as part of their men’s health month segment in the “Living in the Lehigh Valley” series. Hyclak, who is now 79, received a single lung transplant in August 2025 and was part of Temple Health’s record-setting calendar year for lung transplants. In 2020, Hyclak was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called vasculitis; this ultimately led to permanent scarring in his lungs and a further diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis. His care at Temple Health has been led by Rachel N. Criner, MD, Assistant Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, and his left lung transplant surgery was performed by Yoshiya Toyoda, MD, PhD, Surgical Director of Thoracic Transplantation at Temple University Hospital.
