Symptoms

Many people with PAD have mild symptoms, while others experience severe leg pain when walking (intermittent claudication). Symptoms of intermittent claudication include: muscle pain or leg and arm cramping that occurs only when you walk.

Additional symptoms that people with PAD experience include: leg numbness or weakness; coldness in the lower leg or foot; sores on the toes, feet or legs that do not heal properly; change in the color of legs; hair loss or slower hair growth on feet and legs; slower nail growth on toes; shiny skin on legs; no pulse or weak pulse in legs and feet; erectile dysfunction in men.

As PAD progresses, symptoms can occur during rest and can disrupt sleep.
