Temple University Hospital (TUH) and Temple University Health System (TUHS) have both earned top honors in the 2022 Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) Donate Life Pennsylvania Hospital Challenge. This friendly competition brings together regional organ donation organizations and their hospital partners to increase awareness of the need for organ and tissue donors, and to encourage new donor registrations.

TUH–Main Campus took first place for the individual hospital award in the region, and TUHS was awarded top health system. TUH-Main Campus and TUH-Jeanes Campus also earned Titanium status - the top level designation for hospitals in the region. In previous years, hospitals could only enter individually or as a health system and TUH earned top honors multiple times. This year, HAP allowed both entries. With the addition of TUH-Jeanes Campus to the competition, Temple earned top scores in both the hospital and health system categories in the Gift of Life Donor Program’s region—which includes eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware.

“Honors like these reinforce Temple Health’s reputation as a premier transplant center, with our skilled transplant teams performing hundreds of life-saving transplants each year—including kidney, liver, lung, heart, combined heart/lung, and pancreas—in addition to tissue transplants that have healed wounds, provided sight, and helped patients return to normal and active lives,” said Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE, President & CEO of Temple Health. “These recognitions also speak to our reputation as a place where patients and families receive great care, as well as a place of great caring which our team demonstrates every day.”

“In addition to being a premier transplant center, Temple Health also does an incredible job caring for the patients and their families that have the rare opportunity for organ donation,” said Abhi Rastogi, MBA, MIS, President & CEO of Temple University Hospital. “Because of the compassionate support that the staff in the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, and Operating Room provide to families, more patients go on to organ donation at TUH-Main Campus than any other hospital in the Gift of Life region.”
