View All News

A CBS3 segment on peripartum cardiomyopathy featured Deborah L. Crabbe, MD, FACC, FAHA, Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University; patient Chelsi Svenson-Boyce; and her son Jaxson. Peripartum cardiomyopathy, or PPCM, is a rare, complex heart condition that occurs between the last month of pregnancy and 5 months after delivery and can lead to heart failure. PPCM is more commonly seen in African-American women. Temple is participating in the national REBIRTH clinical trial to investigate medical treatment for PPCM. The trial started after Chelsi was diagnosed with her condition. Dozens of TV stations across the country picked up the CBS3 segment, including stations in Houston, Washington, Detroit, Atlanta, Seattle and Baltimore.
