The Philadelphia Business Journal recognized Yoshiya Toyoda, MD, PhD, Surgical Director of Thoracic Transplantation and Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at Temple University Hospital, with a 2026 Healthcare Leadership Award as the Best Clinical Innovator. Toyoda is internationally recognized for developing a minimally invasive surgical technique for lung transplantation that reduces complications and leads to quicker and easier recoveries. He also performs concurrent coronary artery bypass graft surgery with lung transplant. Temple Health completed the highest number of lung transplants in the U.S. in a calendar year in 2025, many involving highly medically complex patients turned down by other institutions.
