Impacto covered the 3rd Annual NHMA/SILMAP Meeting on updates in cancer care among Latino, Hispanic, and Latinx Communities. Impacto highlighted sessions presented by Temple faculty including Curtis Miyamoto, MD, Associate Director for Clinical Services at the Fox Chase Cancer Center at Temple University Hospital, who discussed the potential risk that cleaning staff, nurses, cashiers, custodians, and caregivers (occupations that employ many immigrants) may face from exposure to certain chemicals with the potential development of breast cancer; Cherie Erkmen, MD, Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, who discussed the importance of annual screening tests to lower cancer risk; and Ana Gamero, PhD, Associate Professor in the Fels Cancer Institute for Personalized Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, who discussed Temple’s commitment to Latinos and the fight against colorectal cancer in Philadelphia. Natalia Ortiz-Torrent, MD, FAPA, FAPM, FPCP, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, was on the program planning committee.
