Gerard J. Criner, MD, FACP, FACCP, Director of the Temple Lung Center and Chair and Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, and Truong-An (Andrew) Ho, MD, a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellow at the Temple Lung Center, participated in video interviews with HCPLive for the publication’s “This Year in Medicine” series. The episode featuring Criner and Ho focused on the transition from generalized to more precision-like pulmonary care, aligning advanced therapeutics with the unique disease biology of each patient, and how their presentations at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress in Amsterdam relate to that shift. At ERS, Criner was part of a state-of-the-art session on airway diseases, specifically on biologics in airway diseases and bridging immunology and clinical breakthroughs. His presentation highlighted biologics in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and targeting the right pathways for the right treatments for a greater likelihood of meaningful benefit for patients. Ho participated in poster sessions at ERS on cutting-edge data in biologics for COPD and on biomarkers and clinical aspects in chronic airway diseases. His research focused on biologics and possible structural changes in patients with COPD and T2 inflammation, and a reduction of non-invasive ventilation utilization in patients with COPD and T2 inflammation treated with biologics.
