Sharon J. Herring, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Reproductive Sciences at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, shared perspective with MedPage Today on two studies presented at the ObesityWeek annual meeting. The first study found that women who had been taking GLP-1 receptor agonist medications prior to becoming pregnant had a lower risk of gestational diabetes but not pre-eclampsia during pregnancy. The second study found pregnant women receiving benefits from the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program gained a little less gestational weight when they participated in a smartphone-based intensive behavioral modification program compared with usual care.
