Sean P. Duffy, MD, Associate Professor of Clinical Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, provided perspective to Medscape for an article on new research presented at the CHEST Annual Meeting in Chicago on refractory chronic cough (RCC). RCC is a persistent cough lasting more than 8 weeks that is unresponsive to treatment of underlying conditions, including asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or upper airway cough syndrome. The study examined knowledge and perceptions among providers across seven specialties who treat patients with RCC. Duffy was not involved in the study.
