Sabrina Islam, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, provided perspective to Medscape on two new studies presented at The American Heart Association’s Hypertension Scientific Sessions (HYP). The first study reviewed new data on how sex hormones play a role in blood pressure regulation. The second study found individuals who are simultaneously taking certain antidepressants and beta blockers had a decrease in systolic BP and an increase in their risk for bradycardia. Dr. Islam was not involved in either study.
