The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Allurion Gastric Balloon System for adults 22 to 65 years old with obesity. The device comes in the form of a swallowable “smart capsule” that gets inflated after it reaches the stomach. Rohit Soans, MD, Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Temple University Hospital, offered insight to Everyday Health on the advantages of this new weight loss device.
