Riyaz Bashir, MD, FACC, Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and Director of Vascular and Endovascular Medicine at Temple University Hospital, provided perspective for a Medscape article on an observational study published in JAMA Internal Medicine examining the use of the Impella ventricular assist pump vs. an intra-aortic balloon pump in patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock. Dr. Bashir was not involved in the study.
