Rajiv Bhuta, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, provided perspective to Medscape on a study which found that continuing GLP-1 therapy prior to elective upper endoscopy increased the risk for significant residual gastric volume, but clear liquids the day before the procedure seemed to mitigate the risk. The study was published in JAMA Internal Medicine. Bhuta was not involved with the study.
