Rachel N. Criner, MD, Assistant Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, provided perspective to Medscape on findings on interstitial lung disease (ILD) presented at the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) Annual Meeting in Chicago. The data showed that individuals in close proximity to care for ILD did not have significantly improved outcomes than those at a greater distance. Criner emphasized that, despite the study’s overall findings, “care for this disease is complex, with frequent multimodal monitoring needed.” She also reiterated the benefit of support groups and clinical trials, and the importance of options for telemedicine visits and remote pulmonary rehabilitation for patients with ILD.
