Lisa Rae, MD, FACS, Chief of Burn Surgery, provided perspective to the Philadelphia Inquirer on the severity of skin wounds associated with xylazine and the resulting increase in amputations. Xylazine, which is also known as Tranq, is an animal sedative that has been increasingly found in fentanyl and heroin and causes fast-moving necrotic wounds and heavy sedation.
