A Philadelphia Inquirer article on a weekend symposium hosted at Thomas Jefferson University by Rothman Orthopedics and the Foundation for Opioid Research and Education about the medical consequences of wounds from xylazine featured comments from Lisa Rae, MD, FACS, Chief of Burn Surgery. Xylazine, which is also known as Tranq, is an animal sedative that has been increasingly found in fentanyl and heroin and causes fast-moving necrotic wounds and heavy sedation.
