Joseph D’Orazio, MD, Associate Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, participated in a video interview with Medscape about xylazine (also known as Tranq). Xylazine is an animal sedative that has been increasingly found in fentanyl and heroin and causes fast-moving necrotic wounds and heavy sedation. Dr. D’Orazio discussed the signs and symptoms of a xylazine overdose, its effects on the skin, withdraw symptoms, and xylazine management.
