Jamie Garfield, MD, Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, offered insight to HealthyWomen about what women should know about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. Garfield touched on why and how COPD may affect women differently, factors that may increase one’s risk for the condition, and how it can be managed. Garfield particularly emphasized the importance of advocating for pulmonary function testing if you’re experiencing symptoms or have certain risk factors, as well as the role of pulmonary rehabilitation to help manage the condition if diagnosed.
