Eric Balaban, MD, a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellow at the Temple Lung Center, provided perspective for a Medscape article about a recent study published in JAMA on inhaler-related greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. The study found that inhalers, which are a frontline treatment for patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), contribute carbon emissions equivalent to 530,000 cars annually. Balaban was not involved in the study.
