David E. Stein, MD, MHCM, Professor and Chair and Chief of Service, Surgery, at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, offered insight to The Philadelphia Inquirer about the bariatric surgery landscape following the rise in GLP-1s and related medications for weight loss. Stein emphasized that the need for bariatric surgery continues and patients with complex conditions and severe obesity are still coming to Temple Health for it. Temple Health continuously adapts as new drugs and technologies emerge and has adopted a multidisciplinary approach to the condition with an integrated program that creates a symbiotic relationship with GLP-1 therapies and interventional procedures across medicine, GI, and bariatric surgery.
