David R. Manoff, MD, Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Temple University Hospital-Jeanes Campus and Medical Director of the TUH-Jeanes Campus ICU, provided perspective to Medscape for an article on new research presented at the CHEST Annual Meeting in Chicago which showed that deaths from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and sepsis spiked in the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently declined. Manoff was not involved in the study.
