Dr. David Manoff Provides Perspective for Medscape Article on AABIP Presentation on Small-Bore Vs. Large-Bore Chest Tubes in Adults With Nontraumatic Pneumothoraces

David R. Manoff, MD, Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Temple University Hospital-Jeanes Campus, provided perspective to Medscape for an article on data presented at AABIP on the use of small-bore vs. large-bore chest tubes in adults with nontraumatic pneumothoraces. The research found subcutaneous emphysema was less common with the use of SB compared with LB tubes. Manoff, who was not involved in the study, emphasized the findings were not unexpected, support the current body of data favoring SB chest tubes, and are practice-affirming rather than practice-changing.
