Aaron D. Mishkin, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, provided perspective for a Medscape article on a protocol for universal donor-recipient screening for mollicute infections which significantly reduced catastrophic airway complications among adult lung transplant recipients. This was presented at the annual meeting of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT). Several types of mollicute infections are known causes of poor post-lung transplant outcomes. Mishkin was not involved in the study.
