Aaron D. Mishkin, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, provided perspective for a Medscape article on several newly identified biomarkers that can help distinguish invasive aspergillosis from aspergillus colonization in lung transplant recipients. This was presented at the annual meeting of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT). Aspergillus is a common environmental mold that can cause potentially serious infection or asymptomatic colonization in patients who have significant lung disease or are immunosuppressed. Mishkin was not involved in the study.
