CBS News Baltimore Highlights Temple Health Patient John Kelly Celebrating One-Year Anniversary of Double Lung Transplant

View All News

WJZ-TV, the CBS affiliate in Baltimore, featured the story of Temple patient John Kelly, who recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of his double lung transplant. John’s journey to transplant began 20+ years ago with the autoimmune condition scleroderma, which eventually began attacking his lungs, causing them to become hardened and scarred. Scleroderma has no cure – and medication only slows its inevitable progression. John was turned down for a transplant at a Maryland-area institution but was referred to Temple Health, where he sees Kartik V. Shenoy, MD, Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, and where his transplant surgery was performed by Roh Yanagida, MD, PhD, FACS, Associate Professor of Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine.
