Preventive Cardiology & Integrative Heart Health Program

The best way to beat heart disease is to avoid it in the first place or catch it in its earliest stages. The Temple Preventive and Integrative Heart Health Program offers easy-to-schedule appointments and high-quality care that emphasizes prevention and early detection of heart disease.

Avoiding Heart Disease

Our preventative cardiologists will work with you to reduce your risk of heart disease and help you maintain good heart health. If a problem is suspected, they can offer a wide variety of tests to reach an accurate diagnosis.

Our cardiologists tailor treatment plans to meet your unique needs. In most cases, lifestyle changes, medications or other non-invasive options may be the first recommendations. If more complex heart care is needed, you have full access to the advanced services of the Temple Heart & Vascular Institute. This includes everything from novel drug trials to new minimally invasive surgical procedures.

Cholesterol Management

One of the most common risk factors for heart disease is high cholesterol levels. The Preventive and Integrative Heart Health Program offers advanced screening tests to evaluate cholesterol disorders. If a problem is detected, we will develop an individualized treatment plan that may include lifestyle modification, cholesterol-lowering drugs and genetic counseling when appropriate.

A specially trained dietitian is also available to provide one-on-one nutritional counseling and help you develop a healthy eating plan.

Blood Pressure Management

Maintaining a healthy blood pressure is important for preventing heart problems. Our cardiologists are familiar with the latest and most effective treatment techniques for managing high blood pressure (hypertension). In addition to prescribing the latest medications, we also work with you to create nutritional and fitness plans to help enhance your efforts to stay well and disease free.

Women & Heart Disease

Heart disease is frequently still thought of as a “man’s disease.” In reality, it is the leading cause of death and disability in women, claiming seven times more lives than breast cancer. That is why it is so important to detect problems early so that women who are at risk receive proper prevention and treatment. Our cardiologists understand that symptoms of heart disease often differ between men and women, and that women are not always protected from cardiovascular disease at an early age. That is why our team works with each woman individually to ensure a prompt diagnosis and treatment.

Healing the Heart

In the cardiac rehabilitation program available at Temple University Hospital – Jeanes Campus, patients with cardiac problems, especially patients recovering from heart attack or heart surgery, work to improve their heart health by following a program that includes a medically supervised exercise plan, healthy-living education and counseling to reduce stress. The program requires a long-term commitment from patients and their multidisciplinary healthcare team to maximize the chances of full recovery and continued health.

Multidisciplinary Care

Temple’s cardiologists collaborate with nutritionists, genetic counselors, endocrinologists, and exercise specialists to help patients build new, healthy habits and reduce their risk of heart attack, stroke or other serious events.
