Symptoms

Symptoms of lung cancer are often absent in the early stages of the disease. Lung cancer usually does not produce any symptoms until it is advanced.

The most common symptoms of lung cancer include:

  • New cough that does not go away
  • “Smoker’s cough” or changes in a chronic cough
  • Coughing up blood, even if it is only a small amount
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Recurring infections, such as bronchitis or pneumonia
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Wheezing
  • Hoarseness
  • Unintentional weight loss
  • Bone pain
  • Headache
  • Swelling in the face or neck
