About Me
I specialize in the expert care of injuries and issues with the musculoskeletal system affecting both children and adults. These include sports injuries and accidents as well as managing treatment of long term problems such as arthritis.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Boston College and graduated with high honors before embarking on a one year tour with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. This gave me the opportunity to work with a non-profit organization providing transitional housing to homeless families with children. Georgetown University School of Medicine and a vigorous five year orthopaedic surgery residency at Boston Medical Center followed. After graduating as chief resident in 2002, I became a recognized Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and have been practicing in Philadelphia since then.
My primary goals of treatment for the orthopaedic patient are the relief of pain and the restoration of function. I utilize both surgical and non-surgical techniques to achieve these goals, involving the patient in the decision making process.
Patient Comments
Dr. Desmond listened intently, and addressed every question and concern I raised. He was honest, and did not sugarcoat his opinions. He was also kind and sympathetic. His post-surgical exam was comprehensive. I have great confidence in my doctor's ability, and my recovery from my full knee replacement might be described as miraculous.
This is my first time meeting Dr. Desmond. He asked what was wrong and I complained to him (isn't that what we're actually doing haha!). He answered all my questions. He went on to explain what was happening to my knee or what he thought was happening and the reason for my complaints. He then went into detail about certain things about my problem and suggested that my knee be drained which he did. To this day my knee feels great! Even without the procedure, I would definitely recommend Dr. Desmond
Doctor was thorough and took time to review with me and explain and offer options.
Dr. Desmond is a terrific doctor. He is very caring, explains things and listens to your concerns.
