Important announcement about Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital and Jefferson Health Plans

Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital’s agreement with Medicaid/Medicare insurance company Jefferson Health Plans is scheduled to end on September 30, 2026. Temple and Jefferson Health Plans are working hard to form a new agreement, but we have not been able to so far.  

What happens if we don’t reach an agreement?

Starting October 1, 2026, Jefferson Health Plans will not pay for care at Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital – but there are important exceptions:

  • Emergency care is always covered.
  • If you are pregnant, you can still go to Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital before and after your baby is born.
  • If you need ongoing care for a medical condition treated by Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital in the last twelve (12) months, or if treatment has been prior authorized, you can keep getting care for up to 60 days after September 30, 2026.

How to keep getting care at Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital:

You will need to switch to a different Medicare or PA Medicaid Managed Care to keep getting care at Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital. You’ll find a list of other plans on the back of this letter.

  • If you have PA Medicaid: you can change plans at any time. Call the PA Enrollment Center at 
    1-800-440-3989 or via www.enrollnow.net. Your new plan will become effective within 30-45 days.
  • If you have Medicare: you do not have to wait for Medicare Open Enrollment to change plans. 
    This change qualifies you for CMS’s Special Enrollment Period (SEP). You can request to change plans as early as September 1, 2026.  Medicare Open Enrollment runs through December 7, 2026. To change plans, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) and reference 
    this letter.

What is Jefferson Health Plans?

Jefferson Health Plans is a health insurance company that provides managed care plan services for Pennsylvania Medical Assistance (Medicaid) and Medicare recipients.

Is Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital accepting patients who are covered by Jefferson Health Plans?

Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital’s contract with Jefferson Health Plans is scheduled to end on September 30, 2026. Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital will no longer be participating with these plans beginning October 1, 2026.

What does this mean for me? My health insurance is with Jefferson Health Plans.

Why did this happen?

This decision was made after months of negotiations and was a step that Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital did not take lightly. Temple provides a broad variety of quality services to all of its patients. It is essential that Jefferson Health Plans fairly reimburse Temple for these services. If we cannot come to a fair and lasting agreement, then our agreement will end on September 30, 2026. 

Will I still be able to get my care at Temple?

You will need to switch to a different Medicare or PA Medicaid Managed Care to keep getting care at Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital.

I am currently a Temple patient and have services scheduled before September 30, 2026. Can I keep my appointments? Will these services be covered?

Yes, please keep all scheduled appointments you have before September 30. Temple Health and Jefferson Health Plans remain contracted until that date regardless of the outcome of the negotiations.

I am currently a Temple patient receiving ongoing care for a chronic condition or disease. Will I be able to continue to receive care at Temple after September 30 if I still have Jefferson Health Plans coverage?

Yes. Your health is extremely important to us and we want to ensure that you do not encounter any delays in care. Jefferson Health Plans has an obligation to ensure continuity of care for a period of time for any members who become out of network due to a contract termination.

What happens in an emergency?

We are focused making sure that there are minimal disruptions to your care. Jefferson Health Plans members can still access our services directly through the Emergency Department regardless of the status of their insurer contract.
