Temple Health celebrated an important milestone with the delivery of more than 2,000 newborns between July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026. That benchmark coincides with the first year of operation for Temple Women & Families Hospital, which officially opened its doors in September 2025 and expanded access to the highest level of prenatal, maternity, and post-partum care for Temple Health patients and community members.
Temple Women & Families Hospital is Philadelphia’s only hospital focused entirely on women’s health and family care. The hospital’s team provides comprehensive services, from OB/GYN and maternity care to family medicine and pediatrics, women’s health specialties, and radiology services — all in one place, from prenatal care through pregnancy to child birth and beyond. The hospital also offers a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) — one of the region’s largest.
From the very first newborns delivered at Women & Families Hospital — Baby Joelina and Baby Hazel — to Baby Ezekial who helped to ring in the New Year, there have been many memorable moments to celebrate. Passing 2,000 deliveries is only the latest, said Sharon Kurfuerst, EdD, OTR/L, FACHE, the executive director of Temple Women & Families Hospital.
“This is a remarkable achievement for Temple Health and Temple Women & Families Hospital,” Kurfuerst said. “The opening of a new hospital is an incredible opportunity to earn the trust of expectant parents that this was the right place for them to deliver, and we work to honor that commitment each and every day.”
Women & Families Hospital continues to build a maternal-care model that is “meeting the needs of Philadelphia families,” said Tanise Branche, medical director of the labor and delivery unit. “Reaching 2,000 deliveries means 2,000 families trust Temple Health,” she added.
