Brittney Logan, RN, ASN working as a RN in the Emergency Department at TUH-Jeanes Campus, was recently honored with the DAISY Award. She was recognized for the compassion and advocacy she demonstrated while caring for a patient and her newborn in the ED. Brittney recognized that the mother was struggling and did not have essential supplies for her baby. She purchased diapers and baby formula for the patient so that the newborn would have the basic necessities, and returned to the ED after her shift with the items. Brittney's actions showed genuine empathy and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. She advocated for this patient and ensured that both the mother and her baby felt supported during a very vulnerable moment.
The DAISY Award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away from an autoimmune disease. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, and created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
