Eden Kiocho, RN, a nurse on C6 at Temple University Hospital–Episcopal Campus, received the DAISY Award recently for providing outstanding care through effective communication and attentiveness to her patient’s needs.

In his nomination, the patient wrote: Kiocho “took her time to really explain what happened to me and why the doctors were keeping me, even though I wanted to leave. If I am being honest, she is the reason I stayed and finished my treatment,” the patient continued. “I'm an old, stubborn man and she understood that, and truly made me see why I needed the help.”

Kiocho has dedicated 20 years of service to Temple Health and continues to demonstrate a commitment to the highest quality care, as noted by her patients.

About the DAISY Award

Hospitals and health systems have been recognizing exceptional nurses for compassionate and skilled care by conferring DAISY Awards for more than a quarter-century. Created in 1999, the DAISY Award honors the memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from an autoimmune disease. Moved by the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, the Barnes family created the international DAISY Award to thank nurses everywhere. DAISY stands for diseases attacking the immune system, the affliction that claimed Patrick’s life.
