Temple Women & Families Hospital Hosts Back to School Health & Resource Block Party

In early August, we celebrated our third annual Back to School Health & Resource Block Party at Temple Women & Families Hospital, inviting our neighbors to join us for free school supplies, resources, and information about services at the new campus, which will open on September 3rd.

“Hosting the Block Party on-site and so close to our official opening date was incredibly important in building awareness, excitement, and trust within our community,” says Sharon Kurfuerst, Ed.D., OTR/L, FACHE, Executive Director of Temple Women & Families Hospital. “It created a welcoming, family-friendly environment that allowed people to experience the new hospital campus firsthand, reducing barriers or anxieties about visiting once the doors officially open.”

Representatives from several Women & Families departments—including Pediatrics, Labor & Delivery, Family & Community Medicine, and more—were at the Block Party, as were Fox Chase Cancer Center and Fair Hill Community Physicians team members, as well as over 40 community and resource organizations.

Employees distributed resources, information, and school supplies.

“By bringing services, staff, and information directly to attendees, the Block Party helped showcase the breadth of care available—from maternity and neonatal services to family health, wellness programs, and community partnerships,” Kurfuerst explains. “It gave our neighbors an opportunity to ask questions, meet care providers, and gain a better understanding of how our new hospital will serve them and their loved ones.”

With face-painting, a DJ, and a special appearance from the Phillie Phanatic, it was also a fun-filled way to say goodbye to summer before the start of the new school year. Luckily, with Temple Women & Families Hospital about to open, there’s so much more excitement just around the corner!
