Temple University Hospital – Jeanes Campus has been recognized with the Healthgrades 2021 America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award. The award places TUH – Jeanes Campus in the top 5% of the 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for superior clinical performance.

“Healthgrades is well-regarded for its independent assessments of clinical performance and quality of care,” said Marc P. Hurowitz, DO, MBA, FAAFP, executive director of TUH – Jeanes Campus. “We are honored to again receive this distinguished award, something that reflects the tremendous work of providers and staff throughout our hospital. Particularly now, as we face this ongoing pandemic, we dedicate ourselves to providing excellent, compassionate care in keeping with our hospital’s longstanding mission.”

From 2017 through 2019, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award had, on average, a 27.4% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures for which mortality is the outcome.

During that same period, if all hospitals performed similarly to those achieving the award, 167,235 lives could potentially have been saved. For example, patients treated for community-acquired pneumonia in hospitals achieving the Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award have, on average, a 38.1% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.

These statistics are based on Healthgrades analysis of data from Medicare Provider Analysis and Review for years 2017 through 2019, and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients.

“Given that the delivery of healthcare has profoundly changed due to COVID-19, we want to extend our congratulations to the hospitals that received Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Award. These organizations are committed to providing exceptional clinical outcomes for their patients,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer of Healthgrades.

In addition to being recognized as one of Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospitals, TUH – Jeanes Campus was also recognized as one of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Pulmonary Care in 2021, one of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Gastrointestinal Care for three years in a row (2019-2021), and one of their 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care for five years in a row (2017-2021).

Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award recipients are recognized for overall clinical excellence and providing top-quality care across multiple specialty lines and areas. During the 2021 study period (Medicare Fiscal Years 2017-2019), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures.
