Physician Assistant, Peggy Malloy, connects with a young patient during a routine visit, turning checkups into moments of comfort, trust, and reassurance.

As a Physician Assistant at Temple Pediatrics, Margaret “Peggy” Malloy, PA spends her days providing primary care services to children, from newborns to teenagers.

"I see a lot of younger patients," Peggy says. "We talk a lot about Bluey and princesses and school. It always cheers me up."

Building Relationships for Better Care

As a primary care provider, Peggy enjoys building relationships with her patients and seeing them year after year.

“You really get to know the kids and watch them grow up,” she says. “Sometimes, something you say will stick with a patient and they’ll remember it the next time you see them, which is always rewarding.”

Between patient visits, Peggy collaborates with colleagues, working as part of a team dedicated to compassionate, community-centered care.

In a typical workday, Peggy performs well-checkups and physicals for children ages newborn to 18. She also handles sick visits and provides follow-up care for patients with chronic conditions like asthma.

She now has five years of experience and plans to continue working in Pediatrics at Temple. With her connections to the Lewis Katz School of Medicine and the strong network she developed during her time at Temple, Peggy hopes to one day become more involved in educating future PAs.

But for now, she’s dedicated to giving back to the community—which has been her passion since she was a PA student.

“I really like working with our patient population,” Peggy says. “It makes me feel like I’m empowering the North Philadelphia community by expanding access to pediatric care.”

Hands-On, Community-Based Education

“My experience as a Temple PA student was great,” remembers Peggy, who applied to the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s program because she wanted to be at an academic medical center in an urban area. “With Temple University Hospital right across the street, I was able to get hands-on experience, see interesting cases, and do rotations that allowed me to get to know the area and the people in the community.”

During her time in the PA program, her professors and advisors played a crucial role in helping her select the job and specialty that were the best fit for her. But her connection with her colleagues and her passion for serving the community were the main factors that helped her decide to continue her career at Temple.

“I did my Pediatric rotation in the same office where I work now,” Peggy remembers. “I really enjoyed interacting with the patients, doctors, nurses, and Medical Assistants. Working alongside colleagues and students who were so dedicated to caring for medically underserved populations in an urban environment shaped my education and current practice. Staying in an environment I was already familiar with also made it easier to transition into my job after graduation.”
