Temple Health ranked No. 1 in Eastern Pennsylvania among Gift of Life Donor Program's top-performing health systems in 2026 HAP Donate Life Challenge

Temple Health is ranked as the No. 1 health system in Eastern Pennsylvania for supporting and raising awareness about organ, eye, and tissue donation as part of the Gift of Life Donor Program according to the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) 2026 Donate Life Challenge.

HAP also ranked Temple University Hospital–Main Campus at No. 2 in Eastern Pennsylvania among the 113 hospitals evaluated by HAP, and Temple University Hospital–Jeanes Campus received HAP’s next-highest recognition — Titanium Designation.

Annually, HAP recognizes top-performing health systems and hospitals through its Donate Life Pennsylvania Hospital Challenge. HAP’s annual campaign encourages Pennsylvania hospitals to increase organ, eye, and tissue donation awareness in their hospitals and the communities they serve through the organization of awareness events and activities.

This marks the fourth time in the last five years that Temple Health has been ranked by HAP’s Donate Life Challenge as Eastern Pennsylvania’s highest-performing health system.

Leading the way in donations and transplants

Nationally and regionally, Temple Health is a leader in transplant volume and experience.

Temple Health performed Philadelphia’s first heart transplant in 1984. Today, Temple Health excels in donor heart assessment, resulting in a shorter time to transplant for wait-list candidates. Based on statistics from a July 2026 report by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, Temple is the fastest list-to-transplant site in the Philadelphia region.

In 2025, Temple Health performed more lung transplants than any health system in the country, setting a new record of 179 procedures in a single calendar year. This achievement reflects decades of advances in state-of-the-art care and underscores Temple’s role as a national referral center for patients seeking advanced lung treatment.
