Robert Uzzo, MD, MBA’s role as President & CEO of Fox Chase Cancer Center will now extend beyond the American Oncologic Hospital and include the Institute for Cancer Research, uniting Fox Chase’s dual missions of cancer care and research and unlocking limitless possibilities for scientific advancement while broadening Fox Chase’s impact well beyond our region.
An internationally recognized urologic cancer surgeon and researcher, Dr. Uzzo has a proven track record of success at building and strengthening innovative research and academic programs. As President & CEO of Fox Chase Cancer Center, he has significantly advanced the institution’s clinical, research, operational, and financial performance, and further accelerated the pace of cancer discovery and delivery for our patients.
Leadership Transitions
For nearly 35 years, Jonathan Chernoff, MD, PhD has been a valuable part of Fox Chase Cancer Center, supporting the strategic direction of the institution’s research while making essential contributions to his own laboratory. Dr. Chernoff will now be transitioning from his position of Cancer Center Director to focus on his own research, and will become Cancer Center Director, Emeritus as we initiate a national search for a new Cancer Center Director.
During the search, David Wiest, PhD will serve as Interim Cancer Center Director. Dr. Wiest has made invaluable contributions to Fox Chase Cancer Center, and his leadership will continue to advance our research efforts during this transition period.
In addition, Joel Helmke, MSHP, FACHE, currently Fox Chase’s Chief Operating Officer, has assumed COO responsibilities for both the Institute for Cancer Research and the American Oncologic Hospital.
