Temple University President John Fry announced today that Abhi Rastogi, MBA, MIS will succeed Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE as President and Chief Executive Officer of Temple Health. This transition, as part of Young’s planned retirement, marks the culmination of a long and distinguished tenure. The leadership change will be executed on January 2, 2026, in accordance with Temple Health’s established succession plan.
An alumnus of Temple’s Fox School of Business, Rastogi has spent more than 20 years with Temple Health, most recently as President and CEO of Temple University Hospital and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Temple Health. Rastogi will continue to lead Temple University Hospital while serving as CEO of Temple Health.
“Abhi is a Temple Made leader. This internal transition demonstrates stability, strength, and continuity of purpose at Temple Health,” said President Fry. “Abhi is highly respected within the Temple community, known for his passion, integrity, and shoulder-to-shoulder leadership style. Working with Mike Young and the entire Health System team, Abhi has played a vital role in meeting Temple Health’s mission and achieving sustainable growth.”
“Abhi Rastogi is an exceptional leader with a deep understanding of Temple’s mission,” added Amy J. Goldberg, MD, FACS, Marjorie Joy Katz Dean, Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. “Bound by our Temple Made roots, we share a deep connection to this institution and its mission. I look forward to working alongside him to strengthen Temple’s role as a leading academic medical center and to advance excellence in patient care, education, and research that improves health in North Philadelphia and beyond.”
Positioned for the Future
As President and CEO of Temple University Hospital and its campuses—Main Campus, Jeanes Campus, Episcopal Campus, Temple Women & Families Hospital and Temple Health–Chestnut Hill Hospital—Rastogi has guided the institution to national prominence for quality, innovation, and clinical excellence. Temple University Hospital has become a destination of choice for complex, specialized care, with the Temple Lung Center now recognized as the nation’s highest volume lung transplant program. Rastogi has also delivered more than $100 million in annual impact through operational and financial improvements and has played a pivotal role in the success of Temple Health–Chestnut Hill Hospital and the launch of Temple Women & Families Hospital. In his over 20-year tenure, Rastogi has worked with or within nearly every part of Temple Health, helping to advance patient services and clinical infrastructure, and expanding Temple’s capacity to reinvest in mission-driven priorities.
“Temple Health is strongly positioned for the future, and Abhi is the right leader to continue our strategic path and build on what we have already achieved,” said Young. “Working with Temple’s dedicated caregivers, clinicians, and professional services teams has been the greatest honor of my career. I’m very grateful for Abhi’s partnership and President Fry’s support as we make this seamless transition.”
A Transformational Legacy
Michael Young arrived at Temple Health in 2018 as Chief Operating Officer. He was appointed CEO of Temple University Hospital in 2019 and CEO of Temple Health in February 2020. He immediately led the Health System through an unprecedented public health emergency, during which Temple managed some of the region’s highest COVID-19 patient volumes and achieved survival rates well above national and regional averages. Young has played a vital role in the continued integration of Fox Chase Cancer Center as part of Temple Health, building on the strength of each organization to expand clinical research, medical education, and access to world-class cancer care. He oversaw strategic expansion, including Temple Health–Chestnut Hill Hospital and Temple Women & Families Hospital, and secured the Health System’s financial foundation while maintaining Temple’s longstanding commitment to quality care for all populations.
“I am honored and humbled to serve as CEO of Temple Health and to build upon the strong strategic foundation laid under Mike’s leadership. I want to thank Mike for his mentorship, and President Fry for having confidence in our shared mission and momentum,” said Rastogi. “From the bedside to our leadership teams and every department that supports our mission, Temple Health is strong because of its people. We play different roles, but we are united by a deep commitment to our patients and an innovative, forward-looking approach that drives our momentum.”
“I want to sincerely thank Mike for his leadership over the last seven years. We have navigated some of the most challenging times in the history of the healthcare industry, and Temple Health is the strongest it has ever been,” said President Fry. “We are in capable and caring hands with Abhi, and Temple Health will continue to lead in quality, innovation and education.”
