If anyone deserves to unwind, it’s cancer survivors. That’s why Fox Chase Cancer Center at Temple University Hospital chose the ultimate symbol of relaxation—the beach—as the theme of this year’s Survivor’s Day celebration!
The annual event is a chance for patients and their families to enjoy food, fun, and prizes, and to recognize how far they’ve come on their cancer journeys. “About 200 people participated this year, which was our highest level of engagement yet,” says Rosie Nagy, LCSW, OSW-C, Oncology Social Work Supervisor for Fox Chase Cancer Center at Temple University Hospital. “It’s so exciting to see our community connect on Survivors’ Day.”
In addition to basket raffles, games, and a cooking demonstration, the celebration featured tables staffed by Fox Chase Cancer Center at Temple University Hospital clinicians and team members from across Temple Health, who provided information about resources and screenings. The tables included education about survivorship post-treatment, smoking cessation/lung health, clinical trials, and genetic counseling.
Representatives from the Temple University College of Public Health provided free hearing screenings, and Temple University student athletes joined us in coordination with the Tuff Fund. The Temple University Beasley School of Law’s Legal Aid Clinic, the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department, the Clinical Pharmacy, the Biosample Repository Facility, and the Patient 2 Patient Program also had tables at the event.
