Paul S. Karlin, DO

Paul S. Karlin, DO, medical director of the Critical Care Unit and division chief for Pulmonary Medicine at Jeanes Hospital, was recently named a winner of the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority’s annual I Am Patient Safety Contest.

Karlin is one of 14 winners statewide. The criteria used by the Authority to choose this year’s winner included a discernible impact and evident commitment to patient safety, a strong patient safety culture, and a noticeable initiative in regards to patient safety efforts.

Patient Safety Awareness Week runs from March 12 – March 17.

Karlin received his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years. He completed his residency and fellowship at Metropolitan Hospital in Philadelphia, and is one of seven doctors at Jeanes Hospital who specializes in pulmonary disease. Additionally, he is board certified in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine.

“We’re very proud of Dr. Karlin, and know that his years of expertise and commitment to his patients make him a very deserving winner of this award,” said Marc P. Hurowitz, president and CEO of Jeanes Hospital. “Jeanes Hospital is especially proud that a member of our team is receiving this honor for a second straight year.”

George Miller, RPh, clinical pharmacy manager at Jeanes Hospital, was one of the I Am Patient Safety Contest winners in 2016.

As healthcare facilities report Serious Events (events that cause harm to patients) and Incidents (events that did not cause harm to patients) to the Authority, the Authority turns that information into timely data analyses, resources, and educational tools to keep healthcare staff informed and prepared to internally address patient safety trends.

The I Am Patient Safety Contest gives facilities like Jeanes Hospital the opportunity to share and celebrate stories of healthcare staff demonstrating an exemplary commitment to the safety of the patients they serve daily.
