Kimberly Viola Miller, RN, a registered nurse at Temple Women & Families Hospital, recently received a DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional patient care.
Miller’s DAISY is the first to be awarded to a registered nurse at Women & Families Hospital, which opened its doors in September 2025.
Her care for a first-time mother at Women & Families Hospital led to her nomination for the DAISY Award.
“She made me feel right at home,” the patient wrote, in nominating Miller for the DAISY Award. “She's soft spoken, but very outgoing. She's extraordinary. Kimberly cared for both me and my baby with such kindness and attention.
“Although it is her job, she made me feel truly valued. During my six-day stay, I felt safe and happy; seeing her felt like being with family. I knew I was heard and cared for, and that my baby was loved because Kimberly consistently tended to our every need and request. She left a special place in my heart. My son thanks her, too. She always stayed on top of all his needs. She deserves something special for the special job she provided daily for me and my beloved child.”

Hospitals and health systems have been recognizing exceptional nurses for compassionate and skilled care by conferring DAISY Awards for more than a quarter-century. Created in 1999, the DAISY Award honors the memory of J. Patrick Burnes, who died from an autoimmune disease. Moved by the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, the Burnes family created the international DAISY Award to say thank you to nurses everywhere. DAISY stands for diseases attacking the immune system, the affliction that claimed Patrick’s life.
