Nursing Assistant Marie-ann Wakefield earned Jeanes Campus’ April 2025 BEE (Being Extraordinary Everyday) Award, which celebrates the extraordinary work of nursing support staff. Marie-ann, who works on Unit 2C, was singled out for her exceptional compassion, as you can see in this excerpt from her nomination:
“After being admitted, a young mother with several children expressed difficulty dealing with her diagnosis and surgical plan. She wrote, ‘I was ready to leave the hospital without treatment, but there was an angel with me. Marie-ann helped me through it. She talked to me, prayed for me, and held my hand. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met. If I didn’t stay and get treatment my kids might not have a mom, but because of Marie-ann, I stayed and had the surgery. I will be better for my family and my children who need me. Thank you Marie-ann—and my kids thank you too! You are forever with us!’”
The BEE Award—a compliment to the DAISY Award—was created because, in nature, bees are loyal, hardworking, and can’t exist without the daisy, just as the daisy can’t exist without bees. Marie-ann, this award is in appreciation of all you do, and the meaningful difference you make in the lives of many by going above and BEE-yond!
