Yoshiya Toyoda, MD, PhD, Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at Temple University Hospital, offered insight for a Philadelphia Inquirer article about the advantages and disadvantages of performing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgeries robotically. Only 1 percent of CABG surgeries nationwide in the past five years were performed using a robot, according to data from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. TUH doesn’t perform robotic-assisted CABG surgeries.
