Celebrating Temple Health’s Residents and Fellows with House Staff Appreciation Events

View All News

Temple Health’s Residents and Fellows—also known as House Staff—provide exceptional care, take part in leading-edge research, and deliver essential services to the Philadelphia community while completing their post-doctoral training. To celebrate their contributions, Temple’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) team hosted a series of events across the Health System from February 23-27.

“Our House Staff make a meaningful difference every day, and we appreciate all they bring to their roles,” says Susan Coull, MBA, Senior Vice President and Chief GME Officer at Temple University Hospital and Assistant Dean of GME at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. “We’ve been celebrating House Staff Appreciation Week at Temple Health since 2018, as part of the lead up to Thank a Resident Day, which takes place on the last Friday in February. It’s a chance to collectively show gratitude and appreciation for our Resident Physicians and Fellows, and for the integral contributions they make to our healthcare team.”

House Staff loved meeting rescue dogs from the Pennsylvania SPCA and Philly Bully Team.

During this year’s celebrations, House Staff received mochi donuts, Temple T-branded crew socks, and lunch vouchers or gift cards to the Earth Cup coffee shop. They were also entered into a wellness gift raffle, with five House Staff randomly chosen as winners:

  • Bethany Sobba, PGY-5, Gynecologic Oncology
  • Paul Reilly, PGY-3, Chestnut Hill Family Medicine
  • Giulia Frias, PGY-1, Orthopaedics
  • Alexandra Meeter, PGY-2, Internal Medicine
  • Mason Bennetch, PGY-1, Pediatric Dentistry

The GME team also brought rescue dogs to TUH-Main Campus for House Staff to bond with (and potentially adopt!), courtesy of the Pennsylvania SPCA and Philly Bully Team. “We wanted to add something that Residents and Fellows could enjoy even if they only had a few minutes between clinical responsibilities,” Coull explains. “Bringing in adoptable dogs allowed us to pair appreciation with wellness while also supporting our friends in the animal rescue community. All the House Staff who popped into the event left with a smile!”
