Chaudron Carter Short, PhD, EdD, RN, NEA-BC, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Nursing and Professor of Nursing in the College of Public Health at Temple University, and Senior Vice President and Associate Chief Nursing Officer for Temple Health, effective July 1.

“It is very rare that a health system employee also serves as the chair of a university department, and the fact that this appointment has been made is a testament to Dr. Carter Short’s abilities,” said Laura A. Siminoff, PhD, Dean of the College of Public Health and Laura H. Carnell Professor of Public Health at Temple University. “This appointment also presages a new chapter in the relationship between Temple Health and the College of Public Health.”

“This is a tremendous opportunity for education and research for the Temple University College of Public Health and Temple Health,” said Angelo Venditti, DNP, RN, Chief Nursing Executive and Executive Vice President for Patient Care at Temple Health. “Educationally, it gives Temple Health nurses the chance to collaborate with a world-class Department of Nursing faculty and facilitates nursing students to gain critical clinical training. It also strengthens the already-deep ties between the College of Public Health Department of Nursing and Temple Health, including collaboration on research and scholarship with all College of Public Health faculty. For all of these reasons, Dr. Carter Short’s appointment is a significant step forward for the entire Temple community.”

Dr. Carter Short previously served as Chief Nursing Officer of Temple University Hospital-Episcopal Campus and TUH-Northeastern Campus, while also holding responsibilities for Magnet, Professional Practice and Nursing Education for Temple Health. In her more than seven years at Temple, she has applied her wide-ranging management experience and expertise across a broad array of nursing contexts including med/surg, surgery, ambulatory care, rehabilitation, clinical research, telemetry, education, accreditation, EHR, revenue cycle and public health.

Dr. Carter Short holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Holy Family University, a Master of Science in Health Education and Health Administration from Saint Joseph's University, a Masters in Nursing Leadership from Wilmington University, a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Saint Joseph's University, and a Doctorate in Nursing Leadership from Walden University.
