Symptoms

Symptoms of dyspnea have been described differently by different people. Most often patients report a general sensation of difficulty breathing. Others feel like they are suffocating. Symptoms can include: chest and neck pain, pain with inhalation (pleurisy), dizziness, fainting, cough, wheezing and bloody sputum.

IMPORTANT: Call 911 for emergency medical care if you have sudden unexplained shortness of breath with chest pain, nausea or fainting.
